How companies get listed

What we check, what each listing badge actually means, and what we deliberately do not claim.

What the labels mean

Verified

We have confirmed a current California Department of Insurance bail license for this company and published the license number, and we have reached the phone number on the listing. Verified listings show the license number on the page so you can check it against the state register yourself.

Listed

A real, operating bail bonds business with a published address and phone number. We have not yet confirmed its state license. Treat a Listed entry as a starting point for your own calls, not as a recommendation. Ask for the license number when you call.

Claimed

The business owner has claimed this listing and can keep its details current. Claimed listings are marked with a star on the map. Claiming is free and does not affect ordering -- it is a statement that the company stands behind the information shown, not a purchase.

What we check

A current California bail agent license

Every bail agent and bail bond company operating in California must hold a license issued by the California Department of Insurance. Confirming that license is what moves a company from Listed to Verified. Most of this directory is currently Listed. We would rather show you the real landscape and be honest about what we have checked than publish a short list and imply the rest do not exist.

A reachable phone number

Bail is a business people transact at 3am, and a line that rings out is worse than no listing at all. Every entry carries a phone number from public records; for Verified listings it is a number we called.

A published business address

We list the office address where one is published, and we say plainly when a location is by appointment or agent-meet rather than a staffed storefront. Several directories quietly present the second as the first.

Rates filed with the state

Bail bond premiums in California are filed with the Department of Insurance. The standard rate is 10% of the bail amount, and legitimate discounts exist for specific circumstances. Ask any company to state its rate and name the filed discount it is applying. A rate well below the filed schedule with no explanation is a reason to keep calling.

What you should know about us

Abba Bail Bonds is our featured partner

Abba is a client of ours and is featured throughout this site. We are telling you that up front because a directory that hides its commercial relationships is not a directory, it is an advertisement. Abba's listing carries the same license number, address and contact detail as every other entry so you can compare it on the same terms, and every competitor we hold data on is listed alongside it rather than left out.

We do not rank by payment

Within a county, listings are ordered by review standing and completeness of their record, not by what anyone paid. Featured placement is a paid relationship and is labeled as such everywhere it appears.

Ratings come from Google

Star ratings and review counts shown on listings are Google's, not ours. We do not host, moderate or adjust reviews. Follow the link on any listing to read them at the source.

What a listing is not

A listing means a company met the checks described above on the date shown. It is not a recommendation, not a guarantee of service quality, and not an endorsement of any outcome in your case. Check the license, get the total cost in writing, and read what you sign.
